Summer Camping Trips
Summer Salmon
River trips are scheduled at eight day departure intervals beginning
June 25th through August 12th. Early season trips provide the
biggest rapids, but the water temperature is on the cool side.
As the summer progresses the wave sizes diminish and water temperatures
moderate. Late summer offers smaller but more technical rapids
and warmer water. These trips normally have a nightly camping
format. The days are usually warm to hot and camping and sleeping
on white sandy beaches under the stars is a pleasure. Guides
load and pack the gear boats, cook the meals, wash the dishes,
and share their considerable knowledge of the human and natural
history of the canyon. Potable water is available in abundance
with the utilization of a solar powered water purifier and a
variety of chilled beverages is always at hand. Salmon River
Rafting Company provides four person tents which we intend for
two people, and single participants can expect to have a private
tent. Side trips each day allow us to view Indian pictographs,
and abandoned homesteads and mining claims. The Salmon River
Canyon is rich in history and these brief stops will enable
you to experience an educational dimension we consider our specialty,
and which other floaters often disregard.
This is the most popular season of the year to float the Salmon. Accordingly, the Forest Service strictly controls and limits access and participation on river trips during the summer. Launch dates are assigned and we cannot deviate from the schedule presented in the brochure. This is an appropriate policy designed to assure you do not experience overcrowding during your trip, and that the numbers of people in the canyon do not cause environmental damage to the shore. Under special conditions and with early planning it is possible to offer summer lodge accommodation trips. If a summer trip is desirable, but a camping experience is not, because of age or physical disability, or just personal preference, feel free to ask about minimum and maximum numbers of participants and availability.
